Sherpa Everest Marathon Explore

Highlights of local culture, part of the Sherpa Everest Marathon experience

As we trek through the valleys below Everest, we will have a chance to understand more about Sherpa culture and see some fascinating sights.

Highlights are likely to include:

  • The Sherpa capital of Namche Bazar

  • Traditional villages off the main trekking routes, such as Thame and Phortse

  • Discussions with locals about culture, life, and their hopes for the future

  • Understanding risks and challenges, from mountain accident through to pollution and the loss of traditional culture

  • Gaining insight into the status of the Khumbu as a beyul (a sacred hidden valley), and the deities who inhabit the mountains

  • The stunning temple at Tengboche, with great views of Everest

  • Seeing the work of The Little Sherpa Foundation on education, healthcare and water supply

  • Puja and blessings in a Buddhist gompa
